What is Shantung Satin Fabric?

Shantung Satin is a traditional, elegant fabric with a silk-like texture that has long been used for bridalwear, evening gowns, and special occasions. Made from 100% polyester, it offers the luxury of silk with the added benefits of durability, affordability, and ease of care.

This fabric is double-sided, giving you two distinctive finishes in one material:

  • Dupion Side (Matte Finish): Features a subtle slub texture, resembling raw or handwoven silk, adding depth and sophistication.
  • Satin Side (Glossy Finish): Smooth and lustrous, perfect for adding a luxurious sheen to your designs.

Care Instructions:

  • Machine wash at 30°C
  • Warm tumble dry
  • Iron on low heat
  • Test a small piece before bulk washing

Please note that if more than one piece of fabric is ordered it will come as one continuous piece as it is cut from the roll, however the rolls do have a maximum length therefore larger orders may be sent in multiple pieces.
While every care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of the colours depicted in our images, please be aware that due to monitor resolution, lighting, photo processing software and other factors it is almost impossible to represent colour to 100% accuracy.

Shantung satin backed fabric
I recently bought this fabric in two different colours (pewter and royal blue) to make a Prince Charming costume for my son for panto. I have been really pleased with it! The colours are pretty close to the picture and it has sewed up really well. it looks the part for Prince Charming and at under £4 a metre it's a bargain. I imagine it will be quite warm though and won't breathe terribly well so bear that in mind if you're making something you expect to wear for a longer period. Many thanks Oh Sew Crafty

This is such a lovely fabric, beautiful both sides , you can use the mat side or the silky side,the colour is exactly what I need, better than the photo here, it's more intense pink than on the photo.
